Heavy rain likely today, urges caution
Tonight, the weather is expected to remain generally cloudy across the country, with a likelihood of rain accompanied by thunder and lightning in most areas of the hilly and Terai regions. The Department has urged everyone to exercise high caution, as very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall is possible in one or two places across the hilly and Terai areas of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, and Sudurpaschim provinces.
KATHMANDU:- The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has urged everyone to exercise necessary caution, as there is a possibility of heavy to very heavy rainfall in various parts of the country today.
According to the Department’s meteorologist Sanjeev Adhikari, the country is currently under the influence of monsoon winds. Significant rainfall is expected over the next three days because the monsoon’s low-pressure trough is positioned slightly north of its average location in the west—near Nepal’s Terai region—and close to its average location in the east.
The Department has stated that there is a possibility of heavy rainfall in a few places—and very heavy rainfall in one or two locations—across the hilly and Terai regions of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini provinces today. Heavy rainfall is also forecast for one or two places in Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces.
According to the department, residents in affected areas need to exercise special caution due to the increased risk of debris flow, floods, landslides, and soil erosion associated with potential rainfall. As this could impact daily life, agriculture, health, tourism, mountaineering, and both road and air transport, the public is urged to regularly follow the department’s latest weather updates.
The weather across the country will remain partly to generally cloudy this afternoon. The department has stated that there is a possibility of moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning in most hilly and Terai regions, while snowfall may occur in some places within the Himalayan region alongside the rain.
