Government actively working for safe release of Bipin Joshi: PM Oli

KATHMANDU:- Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has reaffirmed the Nepal government’s commitment to securing the safe and swift release of Bipin Joshi, a Nepali citizen held hostage by the Hamas terrorist group during their attack on Israel on October 7, 2023.

In a social media post today, he emphasised that ensuring Joshi’s freedom is a key responsibility of the government, and every possible effort is being made to achieve it. The Prime Minister stated that the government is prioritising Joshi’s safety, with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs engaging in continuous dialogue through Nepali embassies in the Gulf region to facilitate his release.

He also assured that the government stands firmly with Joshi’s family during this challenging time. Oli noted that, with the coordination of the Nepali Embassy in Israel, Joshi’s mother, Padma, and sister, Pushpa, recently met with Israeli President Isaac Herzog and Knesset Speaker Amir Ohana to appeal for action to secure his release.

He further mentioned that he had previously raised the issue in phone conversations with world leaders involved in Middle East peace efforts, including Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on March 20 and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi on March 12. Expressing gratitude, Prime Minister Oli thanked Nepali and local citizens, journalists, security personnel, and social activists in Israel for their support in the efforts to bring Joshi home safely.
