Foreign Minister Khanal reaffirms Nepal’s commitment to BIMSTEC, calls for deeper economic ties
KATHMANDU:- Foreign Affairs Minister Shisir Khanal has reaffirmed Nepal’s firm commitment to BIMSTEC, describing it as a vital regional platform for driving peace, prosperity, and sustainable development.
Speaking during a courtesy call by Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC )Secretary-General Indra Mani Pandey at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday, Minister Khanal stressed the need for deeper, result-oriented cooperation across all sectors to accelerate economic transformation and address shared regional challenges.
He emphasized that the regional body must evolve into a more effective, people-centric organization that delivers direct, tangible benefits to citizens across member states.
Welcoming ongoing institutional reforms and the implementation of the BIMSTEC Charter, Minister Khanal highlighted Nepal’s leadership role in the people-to-people contacts sector, pledging active engagement through tourism, culture, and bilateral exchanges.
In response, Secretary-General Pandey briefed the Minister on recent progress regarding the BIMSTEC Vision Document and commended Nepal’s active and constructive contributions since joining the seven-nation regional bloc in 2004.
