Face verification added to Nagarik App for instant pension checks

KATHMANDU:- An advanced identity verification technology developed by Third Factor AI, a subsidiary of Prixa Company, has been integrated into the government’s Nagarik App, enabling pensioners to complete identity verification within seconds from their homes.

The system, which had previously been used exclusively by the Pension Management Office, has now been incorporated into the Nagarik App. It was originally developed to

support the office’s digital pension verification process.

Previously, pension recipients were required to visit their bank branch in person every six months to confirm that they were still alive in order to continue receiving pension payments. With the successful implementation of the digital system, more than 300,000 pensioners have been relieved of the need to make these regular visits and can now verify their identity securely from home, according to

Nabaraj Nepal, Chief of Pension Management Office.

Under the newly integrated service, pensioners can authenticate their identity by completing facial verification against the details stored on their National Identity Card. The process takes only a few seconds and can be completed remotely through the Nagarik App.

The verification system carries out two automated checks. It first matches the user’s live facial image with the photograph held in the government’s official records before automatically verifying the personal information linked to the National Identity Card.

Only after both verification stages are successfully completed does the system confirm the pension authentication, making the process highly secure and reliable.

Earlier, in April, the government’s integrated digital service platform, the Nagarik App, rolled out version 2.0.95, introducing a feature that allowed civil servants to download their

Personnel Information System (PIS) records directly to their mobile devices in PDF format.

Now, the newly introduced Face ID verification system marks a further advancement, building on that update by adding secure biometric identity authentication to the Nagarik App.

So far, 62 services from 35 government entities have been integrated into the App.

The platform offers a unified, one-stop digital service portal, including major informational, service-oriented, and payment features. Some key integrated services include personal identification of National ID integration, citizenship, passport application, and voter’s card, academic certificates and Public Service Commission admit cards, employment and welfare, police clearance report and civil registration certificates, PAN service, banking QR integration for account creation, and Hello Sarkar complaints.
