EC registers new 8,370,094 votes

KATHMANDU:- An additional 8,370,094 people have registered their names in the voter list opened by the Election Commission following the announcement of fresh elections to the House of Representatives on September 12.

The registration period for the voter list ended at midnight yesterday.

The Commission has released the details of the newly registered voters. Using biometric registration, 344,914 new voters were enrolled, while 492,180 people registered using their National ID. The provision allowing registration through National ID was introduced later, and it saw an encouraging response.

Prime Minister Sushila Karki wrote on social media that the deadline for voter registration has now officially ended.

By November 2, the number of citizens who had reached 18 years of age stood at 18,168,023. The earlier deadline for voter registration was November 16, but due to high demand and requests from concerned stakeholders, it was extended until November 21. (RSS)
