Dr. Hemraj Sharma announces candidacy for NRNA president

KATHMANDU:- Dr. Hemraj Sharma has announced his candidacy for the post of president for the 12th general convention of the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA).

Through a virtual event on Sunday, current Vice President Dr. Sharma unveiled a 13-point agenda and expressed his commitment to making the organization integrated, technology-friendly, and free from politics.

Dr. Sharma, a professor at the University of Liverpool in the UK, said that leadership with a new perspective is needed to save the declining reputation of the NRNA and connect the second generation with Nepal.

For the upcoming elections to be held in Kathmandu from March 14 to 16, Dr. Sharma has put forward plans such as membership verification through AI technology and the formation of a professional and academic council so that all registered members can vote directly online.

He has pledged to strongly advocate with the government for the continuation of citizenship for descendants, the right to vote from abroad, and social security for workers employed abroad.

His manifesto mentions ensuring 33 percent female participation in the organization’s leadership and making charitable work sustainable through the NRNA Foundation.
Earlier, another vice-chairman, Robin Sherchan, had announced his candidacy for the NRNA presidency.
