My wish to hold the 12th general convention of the NRNA in Nepal: Foreign Minister Sharma

KATHMANDU:- The leadership of the Non-Resident Nepali Association has met with Foreign Minister Balananda Sharma regarding preparations for the 12th General Convention and International Conference to be held in Kathmandu from February 23-25, 2026.

In a meeting with a delegation led by the presidents of the Non-Resident Nepali Association, Dr. Badri KC and Mahesh Shrestha, Foreign Minister Sharma suggested that it would be appropriate to conduct the upcoming 12th general convention of the (NRNA) in accordance with its statute.

“It is my wish to hold the 12th general convention of the NRNA in Nepal,” Minister Sharma said, “but there are rules (laws) that we have to follow, so it is better to do as per your bye-laws.”  “Article 14 of the Association’s amended bye-laws of 2003 (2022) states that ‘the general convention and general meeting may be held online or in person.’
“It has been stated that arrangements will have to be made for representatives who cannot be physically present to participate in the general meeting and vote in the elections online.”

Meanwhile, the NRNA delegation has requested Foreign Minister Sharma to form a main organizing committee for the association’s 12th general convention. There is a provision for the Government of Nepal to form a high-level organizing committee under the chairmanship of the Minister for Foreign Affairs for the NRNA general convention.

On the occasion of the meeting, Chairman Mahesh Shrestha informed that the 12th General Convention of the association is being organized especially after the comprehensive unity and that they are working to strengthen the unity. He pointed out the need for the ministry and the association to work together to further amend the NRN Act bill currently being drafted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
