Disney’s live-action Moana tops the box office

According to Variety, that figure was far below the estimated $60 million to $65 million opening for a film with a $250 million budget. It is also significantly lower than previous Disney live-action remakes—including 2025's *Lilo & Stitch*—which grossed over $100 million at the box office during their opening weekends.

LOS ANGELES:- Disney’s live-action *Moana* secured the top spot at the box office as of yesterday, Sunday, albeit with figures lower than expected.

Box Office Mojo reported that the film, starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and newcomer Catherine Laga’aia, debuted at number one with a gross of $43 million.

According to Variety, that figure was far below the estimated $60 million to $65 million opening for a film with a $250 million budget. It is also significantly lower than previous Disney live-action remakes—including 2025’s *Lilo & Stitch*—which grossed over $100 million at the box office during their opening weekends.
Last week’s number one, *Minions and Monsters*, brought in another $20.5 million this week to take second place, while *Toy Story 5* held third place with $18.5 million.

Another new release, the supernatural horror film *Evil Dead Burn*, landed in fourth place with $13.7 million, followed by *Young Washington* in fifth place, earning $6.4 million.
