Anne Hathaway to share the screen with Tom Cruise in the ‘Days of Thunder’ sequel

LOS ANGELES:- Nearly four decades after ‘Days of Thunder’ hit the big screen, the high-speed franchise is gearing up for a comeback. Tom Cruise is preparing to return to the world of NASCAR racing for a follow-up to the 1990 film. Anne Hathaway has also joined the cast of the sequel.

Tom announced a sequel to ‘Days of Thunder’ in an X post on Saturday. The video featured the ‘Mission: Impossible’ star alongside Anne Hathaway; both were dressed in simple button-up shirts and blue jeans. The actress was also wearing a cowboy hat as they discussed whether the camera was rolling. Later in the clip, the pair turned around to unveil a yellow race car bearing the words “Days of Thunder, Summer 2028.”

Jonathan Levine is set to direct the sequel. His filmography includes titles such as ‘Warm Bodies’, ’50/50′, ‘Long Shot’, ‘Snatched’, and ‘The Night Before’. Will Staples has been tasked with writing the screenplay for the sequel. The upcoming film will be shot specifically for IMAX and is scheduled for worldwide theatrical release on June 2, 2028.

Directed by the late Tony Scott, ‘Days of Thunder’ was released in the summer of 1990. The film grossed $82.6 million in the domestic market and $157.9 million worldwide. In it, Tom Cruise played the role of Cole Trickle—a hot-headed rookie stock car driver entering the NASCAR circuit who faces various personal and professional obstacles on his path to success.

The story for this racing drama was originally conceived by the lead actor himself, and it was produced by Don Simpson and Jerry Bruckheimer. The initial cast featured actors such as Robert Duvall, Randy Quaid, Cary Elwes, Caroline Williams, and Michael Rooker in significant roles.

On the work front, Tom Cruise will next be seen alongside Sandra Hüller in ‘Digger’. Meanwhile, Anne Hathaway’s upcoming films include ‘Verity’, ‘Alone at Dawn’, and ‘The Princess Diaries 3’.
