2027 Cricket World Cup Qualifier Playoffs to be held in Nepal

KATHMANDU:- The qualification play-off tournament for the 2027 ICC ODI Cricket World Cup is set to be held in Nepal. According to the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN), the tournament will take place in Kathmandu from December 4 to 21.

A total of eight teams will compete in the tournament. This includes the bottom four teams from the ICC Cricket World Cup League 2, along with the top two teams each from Challenge League ‘A’ and ‘B’.

6 Spots Confirmed

Out of the 8 teams participating in the tournament, 6 have already been confirmed:

From League 2: Hosts Nepal, along with Canada and the UAE

From Challenge League B: Italy and Uganda

From Challenge League A: Jersey

Regarding the remaining two spots, Kuwait (from Challenge League A) is a strong contender, though official confirmation is still pending. Similarly, one team from League 2—either Oman or Namibia—is yet to be determined.

Changes to the Tournament Path and Series Schedule

The top four teams from this playoff tournament will qualify for the 50-over World Cup Qualifier—the gateway to the main World Cup—which is set to be hosted by South Africa and Namibia in 2027.

With the World Cup Qualifier playoff now taking place in Nepal, the schedule for the cricket series between Nepal and India ‘A’—previously set for December 9, 11, and 13—will be altered. The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) has stated that, following a mutual agreement between CAN and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), the new dates for the series will be announced at a later time.
