Imran Khan in Bombay High Court against the order to leave India

MUMBAI:- Actor Imran Khan, nephew of actor Aamir Khan, filed a writ petition in the Bombay High Court on Saturday against a notice directing him to leave India.

He has claimed that the notice is arbitrary, illegal, and unconstitutional.

Mumbai’s Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) has sent a second notice asking why his Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) card should not be cancelled. He has been given 15 days to respond.

In the initial notice issued previously, he was instructed to leave India before October 28. In a writ petition filed through his lawyer, Imran stated that there is no law prohibiting OCI cardholders from participating in peaceful protests. He argued that the police issued the notice without any concrete grounds or documentation, and asserted that this action violates Articles 14 and 21 of the Constitution.

Imran was taken into custody on October 10 in Mumbai on charges of participating in a protest demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. His lawyers, however, claim that Imran was merely passing by when the road was blocked; he stopped as a member of the public and simply provided a comment to the media.

Meanwhile, as a notice directing Imran Khan to leave India is being issued, his uncle Aamir Khan met with Raj Thackeray, the president of the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena, in Mumbai on Sunday. The actual reason behind their meeting has not yet been revealed.
