Nepal-Europe Science and Technology Conference concludes in Germany

MUNICH:- The ‘Nepal-Europe Science and Technology Conference 2026,’ held at the University of Tübingen in Germany, has concluded.

The conference was organized with the aim of expanding collaboration, exchanging knowledge, and building professional networks among Nepali scientists, researchers, and technical professionals working in Nepal and Europe.

Around 60 scientists, researchers, professors, physicians, engineers, technology experts, and students from five countries—Nepal, Germany, Finland, Denmark, and Switzerland—participated in the event, which was organized with the core theme of “For Nepal, by Nepalis.”

The conference was organized through the collaboration of the Institute of Biological Sciences and Biotechnology (University of Tübingen, Germany), the Nepali Roots organization, and the Kathmandu University Biotechnology Alumni Network. Prajwal Rajbhandari, co-founder and president of the research institute, coordinated the conference.

The conference featured presentations and discussions on research conducted in fields such as science, technology, health, biology, biotechnology, engineering, and mathematics. Professor Harald Gross from the University of Tübingen and Dr. Eveliina Munukka from the University of Turku also presented their research at the event.

During a special session at the conference titled “The Nepali Diaspora and Their Engagement,” in-depth discussions were held regarding the potential to integrate the knowledge, skills, and experience of Nepali experts living abroad with the development of Nepal’s research, education, health, and technology sectors. In the session, coordinated by Dr. Kirtan Gautam, experts emphasized the contributions that could be made through collaborative research, knowledge transfer, and capacity building for students.

Furthermore, in a dedicated session for Kathmandu University alumni, researchers working in various European countries presented their experiences and the skills they had acquired in the fields of health, microbiology, and biotechnology.

On the sidelines of the conference, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between a Nepal-based bioscience and biotechnology research organization and the Germany-based organization ‘Nepali Roots’. This agreement paves the way for the exchange of scientific personnel, institutional collaboration, and the implementation of joint projects between Nepal and Europe.

Participants expressed the view that the country’s research capacity could be enhanced by linking the international experience of Nepali scientists based abroad with Nepal’s needs.

The organizers pledged to advance concrete collaboration in the fields of science and technology by building upon the connections established and discussions held during the conference.
