DHS’s immigration crackdown focuses on ‘sanctuary’ cities

LOS ANGELES:- According to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has stated that it is focusing its ongoing immigration enforcement operations by increasing its presence in “sanctuary cities.”

In a statement issued on Saturday, the DHS indicated that ICE has concentrated the Trump administration’s ongoing immigration enforcement efforts on sanctuary cities.

The states and cities where DHS has focused its ongoing immigration enforcement actions include California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Washington, D.C., Illinois, Minnesota, New York, Oregon, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Washington.

Amidst criticism regarding the enforcement of immigration laws, Homan stated that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operations would focus on “sanctuary” cities.

This statement follows an incident a few days ago in Austin, Texas, where federal agents shot a Venezuelan national inside his car while he was delivering food for DoorDash.

Wilber Rafael Garcas Perez was initially taken to the hospital but was discharged within a few hours, and ICE has taken him into custody with the bullet still lodged in his back.

Texas Democratic State Representative Joaquin Castro said, “The treatment by ICE of Wilber—who is authorized to work in the U.S.—amounts to torture. Since being shot in the back, he has received virtually no medical care, even though he is in excruciating pain and the left side of his body is paralyzed. He should be in a hospital, not in solitary confinement at the ‘South Texas Immigration Processing Center’.”

According to critics, Trump’s move to increase deportations has led to a rise in violent clashes; furthermore, they have accused the administration of dragging its feet in holding the officers involved accountable.
