Youths stage fast-unto-death at Mt. Manaslu basecamp demanding Govt step for flood warning system

By Guna Bahadur Roka, GORKHA:- Ten youths of Sama Village, Chumanubri Rural Municipality-1, have started fast-unto death at the Mt. Manaslu basecamp demanding protection of glacial lake and reducing the risk of glacial lake outburst due to climate change.

The youths have submitted an 8-point memorandum to Chief District Officer (CDO) of Gorakha that include protection of life and livelihood as people living in the mountainous, Himalayan area were facing risk of glacial lake due to climate change.

They have demanded with the government to conduct study about the lakes around Manaslu basecamp, assess their risk and adopt effective measures to save local and downstream settlement from potential risks.

There should be monitoring, inspection as well as scientific study of the lakes here and set up a system with technology to inform the locals about the potential risk, said Yuva Lama, a local of Sama Village.  RSS
