Dipesh Sapkota Team wins national age-group club title in England
LONDON:- Carrington Cricket Club, captained by 15-year-old Dipesh Sapkota (who is of Nepali origin), has won the ECB Vitality Under-15 Club National Cup title at the prestigious Lord’s cricket ground in England.
Although Carrington posted a modest total of 64 runs in the final, Dipesh’s outstanding bowling and fielding secured the victory for the team.
He took two wickets—conceding just five runs and bowling two maidens in his four-over spell—and also effected a run-out. Dipesh, who delivered a match-winning performance, was named ‘Man of the Series.’
Originally from Gulmi, Dipesh grew up in the UK. He has been playing cricket within the Nottinghamshire county youth setup. Selected for the Nottinghamshire Academy at the age of 14, he has even had the opportunity to play at India’s Wankhede Stadium.
Dipesh’s success sends a message that the second generation of the Nepali diaspora is advancing globally across various fields—including sports like football and cricket, as well as education, business, and technology.
It is believed that such international achievements not only showcase the talent of Nepali youth to the world but also contribute to establishing a positive identity for Nepal and promoting the country globally.
More than 160 UK-based Nepalis and Non-Resident Nepalis (NRNs) were present at the historic Lord’s ground to cheer for Dipesh.
Office bearers of the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) UK extended their congratulations and best wishes to the Dipesh and Sapkota families. The enthusiastic presence of the Nepali community made Dipesh’s historic achievement even more special.
