Candlelight vigil held in Colorado in memory of those who died in Bhotekoshi flood

By NATI BABU BHATTA, COLORADO:- A program featuring the lighting of lamps and peace prayers led by Gurus has been held to pray for the eternal peace of the souls lost in the devastating floods and natural disasters in the motherland, Nepal, as well as for the safe rescue of the missing and the speedy recovery of the injured.

Under the leadership of the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) Colorado Chapter—and with the collaboration and participation of the entire Nepali community, organizations, and well-wishers in Colorado—a program featuring peace prayers led by religious leaders, a lamp-lighting ceremony, and a tribute gathering was held at the Nepali Cultural Center (“Nepali Ghar”) and at Lisbon Park in Denver (organized by the Global Bhutanese Community Colorado).

The program began with a minute of silence in memory of those who lost their lives in the devastating floods and natural disasters; Chandra Gurung, President of the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) Colorado Chapter, highlighted the purpose of the event, while Kiran Adhikari—speaking on behalf of all the organizations—noted that the catastrophic damage in the motherland had deeply wounded everyone’s hearts and urged everyone to provide whatever assistance possible to help heal these wounds.

Local resident Hem Giri stated that a community candlelight vigil and prayer gathering was held at Lisbon Park in Denver—organized by the Global Bhutanese Community Colorado—where religious leaders from the Hindu, Kirat, and Christian faiths offered prayers and peace invocations, wishing for the speedy recovery of the injured and eternal peace for the souls of the deceased.

The Global Bhutanese Community stated that it organized this event to express solidarity during this difficult time, upholding the motto of “dedicated to the service of humanity.” The program took place on Tuesday, September 1, running from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
