Death toll from Bhote Koshi floods reached 1,252
KATHMANDU:- The bodies of 1,252 people who lost their lives in the Bhote Koshi flood in Rasuwa have been recovered.
According to the Nepal Police, a total of 1,252 bodies have been recovered: 127 in Rasuwa, 177 in Nuwakot, 60 in Dhading, 355 in Chitwan, 69 in Gorkha, 38 in Tanahun, 218 in Nawalparasi East, 190 in Nawalparasi West, and 18 found in India. The bodies found in the border areas of India have been handed over to the Nawalparasi West district.
Central Police Spokesperson Abinarayan Kafle stated that, of the bodies recovered so far, 95 have been handed over to relatives.
After completing necessary procedures—including DNA sample collection for identification—a total of 897 bodies (comprising 213 women, 314 men, and 370 unidentified individuals) have been safely interred.
Details of 959 unidentified bodies have been posted on the Nepal Police website.
A total of 7,912 police personnel have been deployed so far for rescue, search, relief distribution, and the management of bodies in flood-affected areas.
Search operations are currently underway for 4,875 missing persons. Meanwhile, 3,126 people are taking shelter in ‘holding centers’ located in districts including Nuwakot and Rasuwa.
