DHS officials announce detention of over 2,100 immigrants in New York
NEW YORK:- Federal officials have announced the arrest of more than 2,100 immigrants in New York under “Operation Rotten Apple.”
Officials from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) were present alongside Homeland Security official Markwayne Mullin at the announcement event held in Lower Manhattan on Tuesday.
According to Mullin, no assistance was sought from New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani or New York Governor Kathy Hochul during the arrest of those 2,197 individuals between July 27 and August 29.
The arrested individuals include Bohdan Dmytrovych Hren, a Ukrainian national convicted of kidnapping, kidnapping resulting in death, illegal possession of a weapon, and murder.
Similarly, the individuals include Andreas Bernal Chiquito, a Colombian national previously arrested on charges of sexual abuse of children and causing injury to minors under the age of 17, and Palvinder Singh, an Indian national convicted of rape in Germany.
