South Asian Games will be held in Pakistan from April 3 to 12
KATHMANDU:- The 14th South Asian Games (SAG), which had been delayed for a long time, are now scheduled to take place from April 3 to 12. A meeting of the South Asian Olympic Council (SAOC) held in Islamabad, Pakistan, finalized the dates and the number of sports disciplines for the 14th SAG on Sunday.
The upcoming SAG is set to be hosted by Pakistan. This marks the third time Pakistan will be hosting the games; the country previously hosted the event in 1989 and 2004.
Since the 13th edition of the South Asian Games was held in Kathmandu, Pokhara, and Janakpur, Nepal, in December 2019, South Asia’s largest sporting event has not taken place. The inaugural edition of the South Asian Games was also hosted by Nepal in 1984.
NOC President Jeevan Ram Shrestha, NOC Vice President Chaturananda Rajvaidya, and National Sports Council (NSC) Executive Committee member Sikka Suwal Shrestha also participated in the SAOC meeting. NSC Executive Committee member Shrestha stated that the meeting decided to include 28 sports in the South Asian Games (SAG) to be held in Pakistan.
The upcoming South Asian Games (SAG) will feature athletics, swimming, archery, badminton, basketball (3×3 and 5×5), billiards and snooker, boxing, cricket, fencing, football, golf, handball (including beach handball), hockey, judo, kabaddi, karate, rowing, rugby sevens, shooting, squash, table tennis, taekwondo, tennis, triathlon, volleyball (including beach volleyball), weightlifting, wrestling, and wushu. The slogan for this edition of the SAG is “Unity in South Asia, Strength in Sports.”
Seven South Asian nations—host Pakistan, along with Nepal, India, Bangladesh, Bhutan, the Maldives, and Sri Lanka—will participate in the South Asian Games.
