Para taekwondo player Renu Tamang gets wild card
KATHMANDU:- Para-taekwondo athlete Renu Tamang is set to participate in the 5th Asian Para Games, which will be held in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan. Hemant Dangi, General Secretary of the Nepal Taekwondo Association, announced that her participation has been confirmed after she received a Bipartite Invitation (wild card).
Kaviraj Negi Lama, a Taekwondo Association member and para-taekwondo coach, stated that Renu currently holds the 26th position in the world rankings and the 13th position in the Asian rankings.
Renu won a bronze medal in the women’s under-47 kg category (K-44 class) at the Asian Youth Games held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE), from Mangsir 21 to 28, 2082 BS.
Renu participated in the 10th Asian Para Taekwondo Championship (2025) in Malaysia and the 11th Asian Para Taekwondo Championship (2026) in Mongolia.
Participation has been confirmed for two athletes—including Renu—in the Para Taekwondo event at the Asian Para Games, scheduled to be held in Japan from Kartik 1 to 7. Palesha Goverdhan had previously qualified based on her world ranking.
Palesha, a historic bronze medalist at the Paris Paralympics, also won a bronze medal at the 4th Asian Para Games held in Hangzhou, China. Nepal has been a regular participant in the Asian Para Games since the inaugural edition. Palesha is the only Nepali athlete to have won a medal at the Asian Para Games.
