Education Secretary Holds Initial Talks with Dr Govinda KC as Formal Dialogue Set for Sunday

DHANGADHI:-The government has initiated discussions with Dr Govinda KC, who is on a hunger strike in Dhangadhi demanding reforms in Nepal’s health sector.

Secretary at the Ministry of Education and Sports, Chudamani Paudel, arrived in Dhangadhi on Saturday and met Dr KC at Seti Provincial Hospital, where the senior orthopaedic surgeon is undergoing treatment after his health deteriorated.

According to Secretary Paudel, Saturday’s meeting was an informal discussion focused on Dr KC’s health condition and the concerns raised by him and his team. Formal negotiations are scheduled to begin on Sunday.

Speaking to RSS, Paudel said the next round of talks will take place after the arrival of the Prime Minister’s Health Advisor, Dr JP Agrawal, and the Secretary at the Ministry of Health and Food Safety. He expressed confidence that the government would seek a respectful and consensus-based resolution to Dr KC’s demands.

Dr KC launched his hunger strike at a dharmashala in Dhangadhi, putting forward a five-point charter of demands aimed at reforming the country’s healthcare system. His condition worsened on Saturday, prompting his admission to Seti Provincial Hospital.

The government hopes the formal dialogue will pave the way for a negotiated settlement to end the fast.
