KATHMANDU:- Five names have been recommended from the diaspora for the Central Committee of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP).
The path to nominating Central Committee members from among non-resident Nepalis was cleared after a proposal to amend the party statute was passed at the recently concluded first national convention in Chitwan.
Following this, convention delegates arriving from abroad have recommended up to five names to the Central Committee led by Chairman Rabi Lamichhane.
During the general convention, following discussions among the Rastriya Swatantra Party’s (RSP) Expatriate Nepali Liaison Department, convention delegates arriving from abroad, and representatives of the Statute Committee, an agreement was reached to include expatriate Nepalis among the Central Committee members nominated by the Chairperson. This marks the first time that representation for party members based abroad has been ensured.
The names recommended from abroad include Dilendra Prasad Joshi (Japan), Shashikumar Dhakal (Denmark), Abdul Karim or Chandrasad Sapkota (Qatar), Amar Sapkota or Salin Kumar Khadka (Saudi Arabia), and Pawan Kandel (UK). Kandel, who was recommended from the UK, subsequently contested for a position representing the geographical region within the Central Committee but was defeated.
Representatives participating in the discussions stated that, as no consensus could be reached on more than one name from Qatar and Saudi Arabia, the responsibility of making the final selection—choosing one individual from each of those countries’ recommendations—has been entrusted to the central leadership.

According to the RSP’s statute, the 158-member Central Committee comprises 108 elected members and 50 members nominated by the Chairperson. Currently, 11 office bearers, 31 Secretariat members, and 50 Central Committee members are yet to be nominated.
