BALTIMORE:- Satish Chapagain, who is active in journalism, social activism, and politics, has launched an election campaign for the House of Delegates in the state of Maryland.
Chapagain, who is also a central member of the Maryland Democratic Party, has launched an election campaign to become a House of Delegates candidate from District 7A of Maryland. Chapagain has now become active in the election campaign after registering his candidacy last month.
Maryland has a significant immigrant population, including Nepalis. Chapagain, who has been living in Baltimore, Maryland for a long time, is also actively involved in local Nepali-related organizations and campaigns.
A former vice president of the Baltimore Association of Nepalese in America and an advisor and former media coordinator for the Non-Resident Nepali Association, America, Chapagain is well-known within the Nepali community as well as the immigrant community in Baltimore.
Chapagain has been continuously active as a party central member and as a social activist. Chapagain, starting his election campaign amidst a large presence of the Nepali community, called for support by stating that his candidacy is the candidacy of the entire Nepali community. He said that his candidacy is a gateway for the descendants of all Nepalis.
Chapagain’s district has four candidates running for two seats in the Democratic primary. He is running in the Democratic primary. Along with Chapagain, Lydia Brown, Chum Baker, and Cleveland Reynolds Jr. are also in the running.
Chapagain is currently the party’s central member from the same district. Four years ago, Chapagain won the party’s central member position by getting 4,100 votes. The state primary election is being held in Maryland on June 23 for the upcoming November election.
“I have registered my candidacy with the advice, suggestions and support of my party friends,” Chapagain said. The primary election is scheduled for June 23. If Chapagain wins the primary, he will have to face the Republican candidate again in November.
According to the latest census, the district, which has a population of 83,000, is 4 percent Asian. Percentage-wise, the area has 44.9 percent Republican, 34.7 percent Democratic, and 18.9 percent Independent voters.
Chapagain, who has been living in Baltimore since 2008, worked for various media outlets during his 12-year professional journalism career in Nepal. During his time in journalism, he served as a trainer and also as the Palpa District President and Central Vice President of the Nepal Press Union.
Chapagain, who is currently the coordinator of the Legislative Committee of the Nepal American Journalists Association (NEJA), is also involved in the literary field. The songs he has composed are very popular. He is also a businessman living in Baltimore with his wife and two daughters.
