NRNA unity announced in the presence of Prime Minister Sushila Karki

KATHMANDU:-  Two factions of the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA), which has been plagued by disputes and divisions, signed a unity agreement today in the presence of Prime Minister Sushila Karki.  The President  of both factions, Mahesh Shrestha and Dr. Badri KC, signed a memorandum of understanding on unity.

The Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) had been active for a long time, with former president Shesh Ghale being active in the Mahesh Shrestha group and the Badri KC group. With the anger rising over the division of Nepali diaspora, both factions are ready to unite by signing a ten-point agreement.

After the unity, an agreement has been reached to hold the 12th Global Conference by April 17, 2026. The KC-led working committee is ready to go to the unity convention under the leadership of Shrestha.

An agreement has been reached to form an 11-member steering committee to make the World Conference transparent and credible, and that individuals on such a committee will not be candidates for the 12th Global Conference.  As per the agreement, it has also been agreed to withdraw the pending case from the court.

The 10-point basic agreement was signed in the presence of representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. It is mentioned in the agreement letter that it will be recorded in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The second point of the agreement states that the 12th World Conference of the Non-Resident Nepali Association and the selection of leadership will be held by April 17, 2026, and the term of the committee formed for that purpose under the leadership of Mahesh Kumar Shrestha will be considered a full term.

It has been said that the previous working committees formed under the chairmanship of Dr. Badri KC, Kul Acharya, Rabina Thapa, Binod Kunwar and Rajendra Kumar Sharma, who led the NRN at various times, will be documented as former working committees.

The memorandum of understanding was signed by Badri KC, the chairman of the working committee elected from the 11th Global Conference, and Mahesh Kumar Shrestha, the President of the working committee elected from the Ekta General Convention.
