KATHMANDU:- President of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI), Chandra Prasad Dhakal, has urged to link the capital, skills and experience of non-resident Nepalis with the economic development and prosperity of Nepal.
Welcoming the newly elected working committee of the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) at the Federation Secretariat, Teku, on Friday, President Dhakal said that there is ample potential for investment in Nepal and that the capital, skills and experience of non-resident Nepalis should be used for the development of Nepal.
Federation, a conducive environment is now being created for investment. “The Federation has made many policy reforms by lobbying the Nepal government on issues such as reducing policy and procedural complexity, creating a conducive environment for attracting foreign investment, and simplifying other procedures. If we can collaborate well, we can do a lot for Nepal and Nepalis,” he said.
Chairman Dhakal said that the Federation has recently established the Nepal Development Company Limited worth 10 billion rupees at the initiative of the Federation and that work is being done through the company to promote investment in energy, infrastructure, tourism and other productive sectors. He also urged NRNAs to invest in the company and co-invest in potential projects.
On the occasion, NRNA President Dr. Hemraj Sharma expressed the view that non-resident Nepalis also want to become partners in the development of Nepal. “The non-resident movement was weak due to various reasons. Now we have unanimously concluded the general convention of unity. When the Nepali diaspora is united, the message it will give and the work to be done in Nepal will be more clear. Our emphasis is that we can use our knowledge, skills and capital for the development of Nepal,” he said.
On the occasion, the Vice President of the Federation, Surakrishna Baidya, stated that investment is necessary for the economic prosperity of the country and expressed the view that NRNs can invest in various sectors of Nepal.
Similarly, the Treasurer of the Federation, Bharatraj Acharya, urged for investment in the non-profit sector of Nepal along with investment in other sectors.
On the occasion, the possibilities of investment in priority sectors of Nepal, including tourism, energy, infrastructure development, transport, information technology, etc. were discussed.
