Nepali Congress to be on make or break situation after Jan 11 & 12 Special Convention

KATHMANDU:- A hall booking has been made for the special general convention of the Nepali Congress. The hall has been booked for two days at Bhrikuti Mandap in Kathmandu’s Exhibition Grounds.

Central member Pratima Gautam informed media that a special general convention is being held and a hall has been booked for it.

The Central Committee had brought out a schedule to hold the 15th General Convention from February 26. Accordingly, the ward convention was scheduled to be held yesterday and the municipal convention today, but it could not happen, she said. “According to Article 17(2) of the constitution, a special general convention will now be held, and a hall has been booked for two days for that.”

According to her, the hall at Bhrikutimandap has been booked for January 11 and 12. General Secretary Gagan Thapa and Bishwa Prakash Sharma are being pressured by supporters of the special general convention to organize the special general convention.

Although 54 percent of the general convention delegates submitted their signatures to Acting President Purna Bahadur Khadka on September 26 demanding a special general convention, President Sher Bahadur Deuba and the Acting President have not taken forward the demand.

According to the statute, the general convention must be held within 3 months of submitting signatures demanding the convention. That time limit is until January 12.

Stating that there is no regular general convention and that a special general convention has now become mandatory as per the statute, General Secretaries Thapa and Sharma have also prepared to meet President Deuba and draw his attention.

The two general secretaries have been saying that if there is no regular general convention, a special general convention will be held, but President Deuba’s side is saying that a special general convention should not be held.
