NRNA unity must be sustainable: UML Chair Oli

KATHMANDU:- CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli has emphasized that the unity within the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) should be sustainable and permanent.

Addressing a delegation of the Non-Resident Nepali Association in Gundu on Wednesday, he reiterated the need for the association to operate according to its statute, saying that the association’s campaign has been hampered due to political interference.

Oli urged the organization to include all parties in the upcoming general convention and convey a message of unity, saying that the organization should have a leadership that works with a non-political and social spirit. “I have been saying this for a long time, the organization must operate according to its statute. This is not an organization that will make an old president a new president,” he said.

During the meeting, the delegation sought the government’s support for a speedy positive decision on issues related to citizenship, voting rights, and investment for non-resident Nepalis, now that the association is now united. Association President Dr. Badri KC said that the organization is moving forward as a united front and that cooperation is needed to resolve pending issues related to citizenship and investment.

Another chairman, Mahesh Kumar Shrestha, said that the dispute, which even the Supreme Court could not resolve, was resolved spontaneously and now real unity has been established that everyone can feel.

Vice President Dr. Binod Shrestha stated that the state should provide necessary support to infuse economic and skill-based investment into Nepal and expressed confidence that the demands raised after unification would reach a concrete conclusion. The meeting was attended by the founding president of the association, Dr. Upendra Mahato, former presidents, advisors, current and former office bearers, and a significant number of non-resident Nepalis.
