CAIRO:- A five-kilometer ‘Nepal-Egypt Friendship Run’ was organized in Cairo on Friday to mark Everest Day and International Health Day.

The Nepali Embassy in Egypt, in collaboration with the Ministry of Local Development and Environment and the Badi Degla Protected Area, organized the event with the slogan ‘From the Mountains to the Nile – Let’s Run for a Green Future’.

The program was jointly inaugurated by Nepali Ambassador to Egypt Sushil Kumar Lamsal and Mohammad Yusuf, Head of the Central Administration for Protected Areas under the Ministry of Local Development and Environment, according to the Nepali Embassy in Cairo.

On the occasion, Ambassador Lamsal welcomed the participants and noted that Everest Day, which commemorates the first ascent of Mount Everest, the world’s highest peak, in 1953, is a symbol of human perseverance and cooperation. He said that the recently declared International Health Day will highlight the importance of holistic health, which encompasses physical, mental, emotional, social and ecological balance.

Ambassador Lamsal said that Nepal’s traditional practices such as yoga, meditation, and harmony with nature will strengthen the connection between environmental protection and human health.

Chief Youssef praised the program organized by the embassy, saying it conveyed the message of environmental awareness and sustainability. He reiterated Egypt’s commitment to building a green future and praised Nepal’s contribution to sustainability initiatives.

The race was held in a natural setting within the Wadi Degla protected desert valley, which stretches for about 30 kilometers. The desert ecosystem and wildlife of the area have been protected.

The event was attended by more than 350 participants, including diplomats, students, local athletes, and members of the Nepali community.
