Election Commission announces schedule for HoR election

KATHMANDU:- The Election Commission has announced the schedule for the House of Representatives (HoR) election slated for March 5, 2026.     

Following a meeting of the EC on Sunday, it has published the schedule for the first past the post (FPTP) electoral system and the proportional electoral system on the EC’s web portal. The notice is also released in the Nepal Gazette.

As per the FPTP electoral system, the nomination will be held from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm at the Office of the Returning Officer on January 20, 2026 and the list of the candidates will be released from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on the same day.

Likewise, the final name list of the candidates under the FPTP system will be released from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm on January 23 and the candidates will be provided the election symbol from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm on the same date.

According to the EC, the election programme for the proportional electoral system will begin from December 6 and the political parties willing to take part in the proportional electoral system should submit their application from 10:00 am on December 7 to 4:00 pm on December 9.

The political parties should submit the closed list of candidates under the proportional electoral system on December 28 and 29.

Likewise, the final list of the candidates will be released from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm on February 3, 2026, the EC stated.

As per the approved election programme, the voting will take place in the voting centres from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm on March 5.
