US Coast Guard’s Operation Pacific Viper seizes 100,000 pounds cocaine

LOS ANGELES:- The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced on Wednesday that it has seized more than 100,000 pounds of cocaine in the eastern Pacific Ocean since Operation Pacific Viper began in early August.

Operation Pacific is the military’s campaign to stop human trafficking, the Viper Cartel, and criminal organizations in the Eastern Pacific.

According to DHS, an average of about 1,600 pounds of cocaine has been seized daily since the operation began.

“Operation Pacific Viper has proven to be a vital weapon in the fight against foreign drug traffickers in Latin America,” said DHS Secretary Christy Noem.

Earlier in August, Operation Pacific Viper conducted the largest drug overload in Coast Guard history.

The U.S. Coast Guard Cutter (USGC) Hamilton overloaded more than 76,000 pounds of illegal drugs worth US$473 million at Port Everglades, including approximately 61,740 pounds of cocaine and approximately 14,400 pounds of marijuana.

According to DHS, Operation Pacific Viper is an ongoing operation, and the men and women of the Coast Guard will continue to deploy heavy force to secure the homeland from drug traffickers and international criminal organizations.
