95% Drop in Illegal Border Crossings into the U.S.: The Most Secure Border in History
LOS ANGELES:- The U.S. Department of Homeland Security and Customs and Border Protection have released preliminary data for the 2026 fiscal year, reporting a 95 percent decline in illegal border crossings along the southern border. This figure—which represents a sharp drop compared to the Biden administration—marks the lowest annual number of illegal entries in U.S. history. Furthermore, for the first time in the history of border security, an entire fiscal year has concluded without the release of any individuals who had been taken into custody.
Under the policies of President Donald Trump and the leadership of Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin, Fiscal Year 2026 has set a new record. This success is attributed to robust border infrastructure, the dismantling of organized criminal networks, and the protection of American commerce. For the 17th consecutive month, the border remained under strict control, with no unauthorized entries permitted.
Regarding this, Secretary Markvan Mullin stated that President Trump had promised the American people a secure border, and public data confirms that this has been fulfilled. Over the past year, the CBP has recorded the lowest number of illegal entries in American history. This is completely different from the time of the previous Biden administration, which saw the highest levels of illegal border crossings in history. The results clearly demonstrate that strict law enforcement works. Thanks to President Trump’s leadership and the hard work of our security personnel, we have succeeded in establishing full control over the border.”
CBP Commissioner Rodney S. Scott stated, “Fiscal Year 2026 has demonstrated what can be achieved through focused law enforcement, strong partnerships, and the commitment of frontline security personnel. The DHS and CBP are working to ensure border security, interdict dangerous drugs and criminals, and protect our communities.”
Due to the strict policies of the CBP, the U.S. Border Patrol has recorded the lowest number of illegal entries in history. In Fiscal Year 2026, there were fewer than 99,000 (a total of 98,708) illegal entries along the southern border. This figure represents a 95 percent decrease compared to the previous administration’s annual average of 1.8 million.
Similarly, according to preliminary data, a total of 379,243 encounters were recorded nationwide—a figure seven times lower than the previous administration’s annual average of 2.7 million.
With the decline in illegal crossings, there has also been a significant drop in the number of deaths in the border region. According to preliminary data, the number of fatalities identified by border patrol teams in Fiscal Year 2026 has decreased by approximately 80 percent compared to the previous administration.
Furthermore, in Fiscal Year 2026, CBP teams provided rescue and medical assistance in over 3,000 health-related emergencies—including saving more than 50 individuals who had suffered cardiac arrest by administering CPR.
In fiscal year 2026, CBP completed the construction of a new 250-mile-long wall along the southeastern border. The construction of this “smart wall” was accelerated using funds from the “Working Families Tax Cut Act.” Between September 2025 and September 2026, CBP invested $34.3 billion in physical security and control measures.
Using modern technology, CBP seized approximately 1 million pounds of narcotics in fiscal year 2026—a 63 percent increase over the annual average of the previous four years.
Additionally, CBP intercepted over 4,000 shipments, valued at $325 million, suspected of being produced using forced labor. Furthermore, 55.5 million counterfeit items, with a value exceeding $12.6 billion, were also seized.
