52 Days to HoR Polls: PR Candidates Can Withdraw Names Until Today 4 PM

KATHMANDU:- Candidates listed in the proportional representation (PR) system for the upcoming House of Representatives (HoR) elections have until 4:00 pm today to withdraw their names, the Election Commission (EC) has announced.

The deadline applies to candidates included in the closed lists submitted by political parties on December 28 and 29. Once a withdrawal request is received, the EC will notify the respective party, which can then nominate a replacement candidate.

The finalized closed list will be made public on January 18, allowing for any protests or claims to be filed, after which the EC will release the final list on February 3.

A total of 64 political parties submitted closed lists for the PR system, covering 3,424 candidates competing for 110 seats. Of these, 54 parties will use their own election symbols, while 10 parties will contest under a common symbol.

Initially, 93 parties applied to register candidates under the PR system. The EC conducted a review of the submitted lists on January 4 and allowed parties to make corrections from January 5 to 11.
