Youth engagement in party imperative: NC President Thapa

KATHMANDU:- Nepali Congress President Gagan Kumar Thapa has underscored the need of attracting youths to politics.

During a provincial review of recent House of Representatives election in Biratnagar city on Wednesday, President Thapa said youths require a deeper understanding of NC, its history, achievements and contribution to development. Time has come to mull why and how party lost one million votes in the last election, according to him.

As NC has led numerous local and province governments, the NC’s continuous advocacy and work for good governance and corruption control count much. The party is renewing active membership to update party organization.

NC is a historic political party, so its proper documentation is essential. Digital archiving of party organization and activities is mandatory, he stressed. The President argued that one million voters who were dissatisfied with NC would be persuaded to return to party’s fold. Thapa also vowed incorporation of all sides in the coming 15th general convention of the party.

The President further pledged taking together all four generations in the party.

On the occasion, party Vice President Pushpa Bhusal urged party leaders and cadres not to be disappointed with election result but devote to building party organization. She also suggested active members to make people aware of party policy and its contribution to nation. Digital updating of party membership at ward level would renew party organization in a smart way, according to her.

General Secretary of the party, Gururaj Ghimire, informed that party membership was being updated from ward to central level to give a new life to the party. He asserted that one of the reasons behind party’s dismal result in recent House of Representatives election is the failure of publicizing well the positive works of local governments. (RSS)
