Woolen Sweater wins best film award

KATHMANDU:- This time, ‘Wool Sweater’ has maintained its dominance in the ‘National Film Awards’ presented every year by the Film Development Board, the highest body of the Nepali film industry. The film won awards in three categories at a ceremony held at the President’s Office, Sheetal Niwas, on Friday. The film received awards in the categories of best film, director and actress.

Naveen Chauhan was declared the best director for this film, while Miruna Magar received the best actress award. Neer Shah received the best actor award for the film ‘Paran’. This is the first time he has received a national award in his 60-year acting career. He called this film the ‘climax’ of his career.

‘Paran’ has also won an award in the writing category. Deepak Prasad Acharya and Yama Thapa received awards in this category. Padam Bahadur Shrestha won the cinematography award for ‘Koshedhunga’, while Nahakul Khadka was declared the best editor for the same film. The jury incentive award was given to Ana Sharma for ‘Ramita Ko Pirati’ and Bimochan Dawadi for ‘Jharipchiko Indreni’.

The Dirgha Sadhana Samman, worth Rs 375,000, was presented to artist Madan Krishna Shrestha at the event. When President Ram Chandra Poudel honored him, all the filmmakers present at the event stood up to express their respect, and there was continuous applause for about a minute. Madan Krishna and his son and daughter-in-law were emotional while receiving the honor.

On the occasion, the board also presented special honors to 11 people. Former president of the Film Journalists Association, the late Dinesh Sitaula, was posthumously honored with a sum of Rs 51,000, while Bishnu Gopal Shrestha, Menuka Pradhan, Dr. Singh Gurung, Prakash Subedi, Abinash Bikram Shah, Rohit Rumba, Angela Tumbapo Subba, Laxmi Bardeva, Binod Sherchan, and Shankar Pandey were also honored.
