SC orders Shrestha to furnish written response on contempt of court case

KATHMANDU:- The Supreme Court has ordered Senior Vice Chair of CPN (Maoist Centre), Narayan Kaji Shrestha, to furnish a written response on a contempt of court case.
A division bench of justices Til Prasad Shrestha and Shreekant Paudel decided a hearing with prerogatives in a week after submission of Shrestha’s response. A law student, Ayush Dahal, hailing from Morang district, had filed a case of contempt of court at SC over a Facebook post by Vice Chair Shrestha.

Dahal argued in the petition that Shrestha’s post could erode trust in the judiciary because he had posted that justice delivery was not possible without bribing and exerting influence on the court. He demanded rigorous punishment for Shrestha, who is also the former Home Minister, as per Section 17 of the Judicial Administration Act, 2073.
If Shrestha is found guilty, he would face one year of imprisonment as per the law.
