PM Karki discusses election preparation with EC officials

KATHMANDU:- Prime Minister Sushila Karki held a meeting with the Election Commission (EC) officials Tuesday, focusing on the election to the House of Representatives announced for May 5, 2026.

During the meeting held at the Singha Durbar-based Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, the two sides exchanged views on the cooperation essential from the government and political parties to implement the election calendar. The EC published the election calendar on Monday.

Finance Minister Rameshore Prasad Khanal, Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Jagdish Kharel, Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal, Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Anil Kumar Sinha and Acting Chief Election Commissioner Ram Prasad Bhandari were among those present in the meeting.

It may be noted that the interim government headed by former Chief Justice Sushila Karki was formed on September 12 following the Gen Z protests held on September 8-9 and the House of the Representatives was dissolved subsequently with the announcement of a fresh election on May 5 next year.

During the meeting, the EC office-bearers appraised the Prime Minster that it is committed to holding the elections in a free, fair and impartial atmosphere. It also expected the required management and mobilization of resources from the government towards that end. (RSS)
