Nepali migrant workers from India return home as crisis of cooking gas deepens

DHANGADHI:- A large number of seasonal migrant workers from Nepal employed in India’s hotel and other sectors have returned home after the shortage of cooking gas in the Indian cities.

The Nepali migrant workers from India were forced to return home owing to severe scarcity of cooking gas caused by the evolving situation in the Middle East, it is said.

Roshan Khadka from Doti said that he arrived home as his employer was about to shut the hotel business. “I had the facility of lodging and food in the hotel. But, the owner got prepared to shut the hotel after the shortage of cooking gas. I am back home after being jobless,” Khadka told the RSS in Trinagar of the Nepal-India border in the district of Kailali.

Another Nepali migrant worker in India, Bijaya BK, shared the same story of being jobless after the short supply of LP gas in the hotel business. Also, the Bisu festival is approaching, BK elaborated the reason for homecoming.

He stated that Nepali labourers in the hotel business are hit hard in recent days after the limited supply of cooking gas in India.

Mahesh Bhatta from Doti, who is working in Pune of India, said that a large number of Nepalis working in several other areas have been rendered jobless.

As shared by returnee Nepali migrant workers, the Indian government has taken a tough policy on the distribution of fuels and cooking gas after the poor supply of petroleum products following the conflict in the Middle Eastern countries.

A large number of Nepalis from the Sudurpaschim Province are in India to earn their daily wages.
