Nepal Marks Human Rights Day with Nationwide Programmes

KATHMANDU:-  Nepal is observing Human Rights Day today along with the international community, with various programmes being held across the country.

The day marks the anniversary of the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) by the United Nations General Assembly on December 10, 1948. The UDHR outlines the basic rights and freedoms that every person is entitled to, without discrimination based on race, colour, religion, gender, language, political opinion, national or social background, property, birth or any other status.

The theme for this year’s Human Rights Day is “Human Rights, Our Everyday Essentials.” According to the United Nations, the UDHR is the world’s most widely translated document and is available in 577 languages.

To mark the occasion, President Ramchandra Paudel, Vice President Ramsahay Prasad Yadav, Prime Minister Sushila Karki and other leaders issued messages. They highlighted that Nepal’s Constitution ensures fundamental rights in line with the spirit of the UDHR and repeated their commitment to safeguarding and promoting human rights.
