Let’s not forget Gen Z movement’s mandate: CPN-Maoist General Secretary Chand

KATHMANDU:- The Communist Party of Nepal-Maoist (CPN–Maoist) has stressed the need to conduct elections only after addressing the country’s existing political, administrative, and legal complexities.

Speaking at a press meet organized on the occasion of the fourth special meeting of the party’s ninth Central Committee today, General Secretary Netra Bikram Chand said elections alone would not provide a way out for the nation if the underlying issues remain unresolved.

He echoed the need to restructure the state framework in line with socialist federalism, including a federal system with preferential rights and a reformed state mechanism that ensures people feel ownership of state institutions.

Chand said the party could offer a convincing solution for the nation if it were entrusted with leadership of an interim government. If that is not possible, he added, a solution should be sought through broad consensus among political parties.

“It is unfortunate that the issues raised by the civic circle remain unaddressed even after the Gen Z movement,” he said, urging the government to focus on corruption control, good governance, and the conduct of elections.

“Ending corruption, taking action against those involved in corrupt practices, and introducing a directly elected executive through constitutional amendment are the mandates of the Gen Z movement,” he said, adding that holding elections alone should not be the sole agenda of an interim government.
