Harrisburg Gorkha Wins Nepali Cricket Match in the US
HARRISBURG:- The Harrisburg Gorkha team emerged victorious in a cricket match held in Harrisburg, the capital of the state of Pennsylvania. The final match of the three-day T-12 cricket tournament—which featured 11 top teams from across the United States—took place on the evening of July 5th between Harrisburg Gorkha and Druk Rebels.
Unity Sports and Cultural Alliance and Reunion Cricket Club organized this tournament.
Teams participating in this competition—organized for Nepalis across the United States—included United Cricket Team Nova Royals, Himalayan Kings, Hunter Boys, Reunion Cricket Club, Everest Lions, Saathi Baltimore, Cincinnati Warriors, Druk Rebels, Knight Riders, and Harrisburg Gorkha Cricket Club.
In the competition sponsored by Intra National Welfare and Support Foundation, Intra Mortgage, Intra Pharmacy, and Ghimire Homes, the winner, Harrisburg Gorkha, defeated their rival, Druk Rebels, by 24 runs.
Inaugurating the event, Pennsylvania State Representative Dave Madsen expressed his belief that this sporting initiative by the Nepali community would help foster discipline within society and enable the younger generation to contribute to the nation through sports.
Ezekiel Ghatani was named ‘Man of the Series’ at the tournament, which featured well-wishes from Swatara Township and Susquehanna Township Commissioners Tom Connolly and Fred Felona, Intra Foundation Executive Director Chudamani Bhattarai, and Unity Club President Omraj Gurung.
Similarly, Manish Humagai was named Best Batsman, Basu Dhungana Best Bowler, Subodh Wagle Best Fielder, Khagen Dhimal Best Wicketkeeper, and Ayus Khanal Best Catcher. Additionally, the Sathi Baltimore team won the Fair Play Award.
According to a statement issued by the organizing committee, the winning team received a prize of US$7,000, while the runner-up team received US$3,500. The prizes were presented to the winners by Chairman Gurung and the Foundation’s Executive Director, Bhattarai.
