Habeas corpus petition filed against arrest of UML Chair Oli, ex-Home Minister Lekhak

KATHMANDU:- Habeas corpus petitions have been filed at the Supreme Court against the arrest of CPN (UML) Chairperson and former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, and Nepali Congress leader and former Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak.

The petition concerning Oli was filed by Oli’s spouse, Radhika Shakya, claiming that his detention was unlawful, thus warranting his immediate release.

SC has scheduled a hearing on the writ petition for tomorrow. Likewise, a similar petition has been registered at the SC against the arrest of former Home Minister Lekhak, arguing that he was apprehended illegally. Hearing on it is also slated for tomorrow.

Both the leaders were arrested yesterday as per the recommendations of the high-level commission formed by the erstwhile interim government to probe the incidents related to the Gen Z movement that occurred on September 8 and 9, 2025.

The high-level inquiry commission led by Gauri Bahadur Karki had recommended that the government take action against Oli and Lekhak under the criminal offence for suppressing the Gen Z movement. RSS
