‘Gagan Jee had to hold a serious dialogue for greater unity of the Nepali Congress Party’

“The biggest need right now is greater unity of the party. If this greater unity does not happen, our campaign to restore the Congress will be weak,” Dr. Mahat said. “For this, serious initiatives are needed from Gagan Jee, who has technically received authority from the special general convention.”

KATHMANDU:- Nepali Congress leader Dr. Prakash Sharan Mahat has said that the revival of the Nepali Congress as the most reliable and popular force of the Nepali people will be difficult if there is no greater unity within the party.

At a press conference organized at his residence in Bansbari on Thursday morning, leader Mahat said that the party is currently facing a challenging time as the party has shrunk to a limited number in parliament after the elections and the party’s traditional base has also eroded.

Pointing out that there is a serious psychological gap across the country, especially between the supporters of the regular 15th General Convention and the leaders who rose to leadership through the special general convention, he said that this has created a situation that has further weakened the party.

“The biggest need right now is greater unity of the party. If this greater unity does not happen, our campaign to restore the Congress will be weak,” Dr. Mahat said. “For this, serious initiatives are needed from Gagan Jee, who has technically received authority from the special general convention.”

He claimed that due to the failure of the current leadership to take concrete and responsible steps, new energy has not been added to the party and there has been deviation among the workers across the country. He expressed concern that due to the failure to instill trust and confidence from the leadership level, some friends have started leaving the party and some have become inactive.

Leader Mahat also warned that there is no more time to mess with the Congress. “This unity campaign that involves everyone cannot be completed through sporadic and informal meetings,” he added. “For this, a serious and intensive discussion should be held immediately and the party should be given momentum by drawing conclusions as soon as possible.”
