KATHMANDU:- Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) has called for the government to investigate into those involved in robbery, arson and vandalism in industries, business and private property during the Gen Z Uprising and take action against the guilty, as well as ensuring security arrangements.
The umbrella organization of commerce and industry has drawn the government’s serious attention to the growing impunity and demotivation to the entrepreneurs acting on the complaints being lodged by its members noting that the FIRs against those involved in such incidents are not being registered.
In a press release today, the Federation stated that these incidents have not only weakened the morale of the private sector but also have a negative impact on economic activities.
‘This will inflict a long-term effect on job creation, revenue collection, investment promotion, and the overall economy’, the release reads.
The Federation has also urged the participation of the presidents and representatives of the chambers of commerce and industry of the respective district and municipality to ensure their representation in central and district-level security committees for the assurance of private sector security.
Making a formal request to this effect, the Federation has also corresponded with the Ministry of Home Affairs.
The governments of all levels are urged to ensure the direct participation of the business community in private sector coordination and primarily in district-level security planning, risk assessment, and emergency decision-making processes,.
In a discussion attended by the Federation’s officials, the standing committee, and the chairpersons of committees/forums, the acting president of the Federation, Anjan Shrestha, stated that without peace and security, there can be no stability; without stability, business enterprises cannot operate; and if business enterprises do not operate, serious problems will arise in the economy.
He argued that making peace and security for businessmen is therefore an essential condition.
Immediate past president of the Federation, Shekhar Golchha noted that the private sector expects government initiative in order to sustainably advance the country’s economic activities, make the investment environment reliable, and create a situation where the private sector can operate with confidence.
