Dry landslide damages Gharkhola hydropower project, one missing

MYAGDI:- One person has gone missing and another has been injured after a dry landslide occurred at Pokharebagar in Annapurna Rural Municipality-6, Myagdi, on Monday morning.

The landslide also damaged the powerhouse of the 14-MW Gharkhola Hydropower Project, disrupting electricity generation.

According to the District Police Office, 55-year-old Dipak Baruwal, a worker at the powerhouse and a resident of Annapurna-6, went missing in the incident. Another worker, 31-year-old Surendra BK of Gauriganga Municipality-5, sustained injuries.

A joint search operation is underway for Baruwal, involving personnel from the Nepal Police, Nepali Army and Armed Police Force, along with local representatives and residents.

Police Inspector Sagar Timilsina said BK was rescued and provided initial treatment before being referred to Province Hospital in Beni for further treatment.

The landslide caused significant damage to equipment at the hydropower project, resulting in an interruption of power production.
