Bushra Amiwala Responds to Minneapolis Woman Slain by ICE

Minneapolis, MN:- An immigration enforcement officer shot and killed a woman in Minneapolis on Wednesday. The woman, whose name is not known, was 37.

An ICE agent opened fire at a car that was driving away from the scene. The agent later claimed that his use of force was necessary for self-defense—a narrative contradicted by the video footage.

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey has called for ICE to leave his city.

Congressional candidate Bushra Amiwala released the following statement:

“This morning we saw that ICE acts with impunity. They can kill peaceful civilians whenever they feel like it. There are no consequences. There is no accountability. ICE is a violent, armed paramilitary force that takes pleasure in murdering anyone who opposes them.”

“It’s time to abolish ICE. This isn’t the first life ICE has taken, and it won’t be the last. This agency is supposed to keep the public safe. Instead they are putting all of us in danger by invading our neighborhoods and attacking innocent people.”

“Every major American city is under invasion. I will continue to share legal resources, advocate for anti-ICE ordinances and support my neighbors whenever possible. I extend condolences to the family of today’s victim, and to the families of all those abducted.”
