Water flow in Mahakali River increases, vehicle movement restricted

KATHMANDU:- The vehicular movements of large vehicles entering Nepal-India via the Banbasa Bridge have been banned.

The movement of four-wheeled vehicles has been banned at the Sharda Barrage due to the increased water level in the Mahakali River.

According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Sagar Bohara, spokesperson for the District Police Office, Kanchanpur, the water flow at the flood measurement center at Banbasa Bridge was measured at 145,029 cusecs at 12:45 PM on Friday.

Due to the dilapidated condition of the Banbasa concrete bridge (Sharda Barrage) connecting Nepal and India on the Mahakali River, traffic is restricted when the water flow exceeds 100,000 cusecs.

The flow of water in the Mahakali River has increased on Friday due to regular rainfall in Kanchanpur, including the hilly districts of the Far West, since Thursday.
