‘The bill has been brought to regulate the misuse of social media’

KATHMANDU:- Today’s meeting of the National Assembly has unanimously approved the proposal seeking consideration on the Social Media Bill 2081.

Responding to questions raised during the discussion on the bill in the meeting, Minister for Communications and Information Technology Prithvi Subba Gurung said that the bill has been brought to regulate the misuse of social media.

Communications Minister Gurung mentioned that the Social Media Bill is also needed to bring various forms of digital crimes such as cybercrime under the legal ambit and strengthen good governance.

Similarly, different reports from two parliamentary committees were presented in today’s meeting of the National Assembly.

The ‘Legislative Arrangement Report on the Nepal Citizenship Second Amendment Bill, 2081’ and the ‘Study Report on Policy Issues Related to National Parks, 2082’ were presented in the meeting along with a message from the House of Representatives.

In the meeting, Tulsa Kumari Dahal, Chairperson of the Legislative Management Committee, presented the ‘Legislative Management Report on the Nepal Citizenship Second Amendment Bill, 2081’ to the House.

While presenting the report, Chairman Dahal said that the bill was originally intended to grant citizenship in the mother’s name to those whose fathers are unknown, as provided for in the constitution.

Similarly, Maya Prasad Sharma, Chairman of the Public Policy and Delegated Legislation Committee, presented a study report on policy issues related to national parks, 2082.

Chairman Sharma expressed confidence that the report would help narrow the differences in perceptions seen in the areas of development and conservation and advance development with conservation.
