Heavy rains likely in three provinces due to the impact of Cyclone ‘Arnab’
KATHMANDU:- The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has reported that the remnants of Cyclone ‘Arnab’—which developed in the Bay of Bengal—along with the partial influence of westerly winds, are currently affecting the entire country, resulting in cloudy conditions across most regions.
At present, moderate rainfall is occurring in many areas of Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini provinces, while light rain is falling in some parts of Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces. Skies across all provinces are expected to remain cloudy this afternoon.
There is a possibility of moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning, as well as snowfall, in most parts of Koshi, Madhesh, and Bagmati provinces; some areas of Gandaki Province; and certain locations within the Himalayan and hilly regions of Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim provinces.
Additionally, the Department has stated that light rain is possible in some Terai areas of Lumbini and Sudurpaschim provinces, while heavy rain and snowfall may occur in one or two places across Koshi, Madhesh, and Bagmati provinces.
Similarly, the entire country will be cloudy tonight. There is a possibility of moderate rain and snowfall in some places within the Himalayan region. Light rain is also possible in one or two locations across the hilly areas of Koshi and Gandaki provinces.
Citing the possibility of rain, the Department has advised against conducting agricultural activities—such as harvesting paddy—today and tomorrow. It has also urged caution due to the risk of heavy snowfall, blizzards, and avalanches in the high hilly and Himalayan regions, and has requested that tourists avoid traveling to these high-altitude areas. Furthermore, tourists already present in such regions are advised to remain in a safe location until weather conditions improve.
The division has urged the general public and related bodies to be vigilant and prepare as the cold may increase with the rain, landslides may occur in vulnerable areas and along the roads, and daily life, including road and air transport, may be affected.
In addition, the division has stated that its impact will gradually weaken from tomorrow afternoon.
