Landslides block major roads in Karnali

SURKHET:- Several major roads in Karnali Province have been blocked by landslides following continuous heavy rainfall over the past few days.

According to Santosh Singh Rathore, spokesperson for the Karnali Province Police Office, Surkhet, the Karnali Corridor connecting Humla through Surkhet, Dailekh, Kalikot and Bajura has been disrupted. The Karnali Highway connecting Jumla and Mugu through the same route is also blocked.

The road sections have been obstructed mainly by landslides at Aulise in Barahatal Rural Municipality-7.

The Mid-Hill Highway has also been blocked by a landslide at Samlekhola in Saniveri Rural Municipality-2. Similarly, the Rapti Highway has been disrupted by a landslide at Kharkhola in Kapurkot Rural Municipality-5 of Salyan.

Landslides have also affected the Luham-Kalimati road section linking Surkhet and Salyan. Road sections in Dhungebagar of Triveni Rural Municipality-3 and Ryale of Bangad Kupinde Municipality-8 have also been obstructed.

According to police, road disruptions have been reported at Levavir of Chedagad Municipality-4 in Jajarkot, Bhigam of Tilagufa Municipality-1 in Kalikot, Bairanka of Tatopani Rural Municipality-1 and Rankagaon in Jumla.

Similarly, the Pina-Gamgadhi-Nagam road section in Chhayanath Rara Municipality-7 and 8 of Mugu has also been affected by landslides.

Rathore said excavators and other heavy equipment have been deployed to clear the landslides and reopen the blocked road sections.
