US provide $31 million for rehabilitation of Bhote Koshi flood-affected areas

NEW YORK:- The United States is set to provide an additional $31 million in assistance for post-flood recovery and reconstruction in Nepal.

Alison Hooker, the U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary for Political Affairs, made this announcement during a meeting with Nepal’s Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal in New York.

During the meeting, she expressed condolences to the citizens affected by the devastating floods in Nepal and to the families of the approximately 70 American citizens who remain out of contact.

The United States has announced that it will provide bridges—valued at $10 million and capable of being installed either permanently or as needed—to restore transport infrastructure and strengthen regional connectivity in the affected areas. It has been stated that these bridges will be procured from an American company.

Similarly, the US has announced plans to provide an additional $8 million to support affected communities in areas such as water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), shelter, protection, livelihoods, and winter-specific assistance.

Plans have also been announced to spend $13 million to provide US-made drones to enhance the effectiveness of post-flood disaster management.

The U.S. Embassy stated that with this announcement, the total assistance provided by the United States for Nepal’s flood response and recovery efforts has surpassed $36 million.

The United States has also pledged to provide additional assistance by collaborating with the Government of Nepal to identify needs.
